Reports to: Chief of the Division of Plastic, Aesthetic, and Reconstructive Surgery, University of Miami's Department of Surgery

JOB SUMMARY:

The faculty member shall be a member of the active Medical Staff and shall be administratively responsible for working collaboratively with Department of Surgery's leadership in addressing issues of common concern related to patient care taking place within the lymphedema service line. On an annual basis, the performance of the faculty member shall be evaluated by the Chief and Chair of the Department of Surgery based on the effectiveness and the satisfactory execution of duties.

  • Responsible for the collection of data and the publishing of research.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create a patient-focused surgical lymphedema program through collaboration with other specialties.

Collaborate with Departmental leadership to:

  • improve the quality of patient care and patient satisfaction.

  • ensure proper training, education, and oversight for physicians, nurses, physical therapists and other staff members for the lymphedema service line.

  • identify and help resolve conflict between the medical staff of the discipline and hospital staff.

  • support and incentivize clinical research within the lymphedema program.

  • Participate in peer review, performance improvement, utilization review and risk management and patient safety activities as they relate to lymphedema.

  • Interpret and help to ensure medical staff compliance with hospital and medical staff bylaws, policies, procedures, rules and regulations and applicable regulatory standards.

  • Serve as an active member of medical staff and hospital committees.

  • Support risk management review related to faculty physicians in the discipline.

  • Help to resolve complaints and grievances related to faculty physicians in the discipline.

  • Is part of the escalation process for unresolved critical patient care issues related to the discipline.

  • Participate in root cause analyses on the lymphedema service line.

  • Serve as a liaison to other disciplines, particularly Breast Surgery to improve care coordination or to resolve concerns.

  • Perform such other functions and duties as may be assigned or requested by the Departmental leadership.

Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):

Applicants should have a strong commitment to patient care and education and an interest in clinical research. Bachelor's degree in pre-medicine or related field, followed by 4 years in medical school and additional residency and fellowship specialty training.

Eligible candidates must be board certified or eligible in surgery, be able to obtain and maintain a valid DEA Registration and Florida Medical License, and have completed a fellowship in microsurgery or microvascular plastic surgery.
